Event Description

The power of self-representation and the importance of embracing one’s disability identity. This session will discuss reclaiming personal narratives, challenging societal stereotypes, and celebrating the diversity within the disability community. Attendees will hear from individuals with lived experience, gaining tools to empower themselves and others in shaping their own stories and identities with confidence and pride.


Allaina Humphreys is a disability rights advocate, mother of three, and a quadriplegic of more than 30 years. She is the chair of Bolingbrook Pride, vice chair of the Bolingbrook Arts Council, and a member of the 2025 cohorts of Disability Lead and Illinois Women’s Leadership Training Academy. She conducts accessibility audits, designs inclusive community projects, and partners with elected officials to create policy change that champions inclusion for all.
